After months of being sick and without computer I am so glad to be back! There's tons of catching up to do but as time goes by... Today my best friend Linn of Goss Chocolate/Blue Crab gave me this gorgeous pottery jar from Honduras. It goes quite well with my dress...

Well its time again for our annual Art Festival, that's happening right now, Valentine's Day, and continues on Sunday. The reception was held at Serenade on the sidewalk in Placencia, and featured a blues mouth organ player - he was actually quite cool - and the Garifuna drums which are always awesome.

The mango tree my son Charles planted when he was twelve years old. It shot up and when it reached as tall as he was it stopped growing. We used to tease him and tell him the tree was waiting for him to grow so it could grow too. Then category 4 hurricane Iris came in 2001 and broke the tree halfway down the trunk. We thought it was a goner but we never did pull up the broken trunk and guess what? It started growing again six months later! Well now 8 years later it is finally bearing fruit and is loaded down with baby mangoes! Took awhile but now it's doing fine.

Beautiful bougainvillea - the blossoms are varicolored - white with light green and light pink.

The vine my friend Jose gave me last year is looking lovely too!

Happy New Year to all! Hoping that this will be a better year for all of us, the last one was a bit of a bummer.

Here I am with this totally spoiled puss, he loves to be carried around and I'm afraid we indulge him. Although it's hard to ignore him when he wants to be picked up, he sets about 92 claws in your ankles if you don't pay him any attention.

I finally wore my Christmas vest, it's colorful like my art!

Rafael also spoils this cat, well, his ankles are bonier than mine so I guess he would be foolish to ignore this puss when he wants attention.

My god-daughter Finita (black blouse) and a friend came to wish me Happy New Year.

After packing in his New Year dinner Master BibiCat Esq. is putting in his 18 hour shift of sleep.

Had a lot of family and friends over to visit this morning, and guests from the resorts too, came to the gallery. It's a really beautiful sunny day, cool Caribbean breeze blowing. Merry Christmas all!

I'm baaaaccck! Was missing for a week, computer was suffering from a hangover, had constant hiccups, headache and vomiting. But I worked on it myself today in desperation (the doctor hasn't showed up yet) and lo and behold IT DID NOT EXPLODE IN FACT IT'S WORKING AGAIN! Well not perfectly but it's working. Enough for me to blog. Here's a new addition to the art show 2009 family, called NO SKINNY DIPPING, and a few more for the gallery walls.

I got my grandson Kameron over the weekend and he and I decorated the tree. It was so much fun and we played Acid Xmas cd's.

So I have a thing for fat hairy men who dress all in my favourite color and plays with toys (Jesus I just realized, I'm really in bad shape). Anyway, I been collecting these for 14 years now, I started with two that belonged to my mom and it just kinda grew on me. I took 'em out and displayed them as I do each year, and I still like them a LOT! There's always room for one more so if you feel charitable and in the Christmas spirit send one over to join the collection! (Don't you think the one with the saxophone looks like Barn?!?)

These are two older ones, from my mom. These are gorgeous carved and painted wooden ones.

The one in the middle was from my daughter.

LOLA'S TURKEY TACOS

Okay you got all the leftover bird, I know there's probably a million recipes out there telling you how to deal with this poor skeleton, this totally torn apart carcass, so here's one mo' to add to the list! This one is my favourite actually.

Finely shred leftover turkey meat, fry in a little oil with chopped onions, stir in black pepper, oregano, a little cumin and a little chili powder. Stirfry until nicely browned. Drain well. Heat corn or flour tortillas, put a couple spoons of the turkey mix on each, top with shredded cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, Salsa Casera (drain salsa first), shredded lettuce and chopped fresh cilantro. Yum!!

Okay, them cards have been sitting there long enough. Time to be blogging. We've had some stuff going on the last few days. Of note was the Ebony and Ivory poetry reading held at Wendy's in Placencia on Saturday night the 22nd, featuring two powerful women - Angela Gegg and Adele Ramos. Wow!!! is all we could say. Made us who write poetry get all excited all over again, and the outcome? Well Lita Krohn of the PPAA said she would publish an anthology for us peninsula poets if we got the material together!!!!! And Barn of As The Coconuts Drop blogspot will take the photos for us for the anthology!!! We want to put a photo of each poet along with their work. Super cool!! There was an open mike after the Ebony & Ivory readings and we enjoyed a poem from Mariko Wallen and yours truly. Mine was called "Life On The Peninsula". The appetizer buffet put out by Wendy was fabulous, man they had some conch fritters there, whew I was ashamed to be going back for thirds but then I saw everybody was doing the same!! And for fourths too!! Anyway, here's some pics...

Well we have lived through a historical day, Tuesday November 4th when Barack Obama became the 44th President of the USA, the first African-American to do so. We are living in interesting times (didn't I read somewhere that a curse goes something like that? "May you live in interesting times..." Is it Chinese? Jewish? I can't recall...) Anyhow, let's hope it all makes a difference. I found some photos of the man of the hour, I especially like the one with the ciggy hanging from his mouth...

Well hi again, I've been absent a few days, but I got a few paintings done, did some cleaning up in the garden, prettying up the place in the hopes that we start seeing tourists soon. Also got all my snail mail done and my scrapbook up to date, and evicted the moths from the sweater bin. And MY WEBSITE IS FINALLY UP AND RUNNING!!! ART SHOW 2009 NEWS

Well I have some news! I will be having an art show April 2009, it should be at the House of Culture in Belize City but I will confirm this later, along with the dates. I am so excited! My goal is 80 paintings - 70 9x12's and 10 21x27's. It will be called WOMEN OF COLOR and will feature just that - my blue ladies, my gold ladies, my green ladies and more. I finished the first one already. The other I got done on Monday and is called STILL LIFE IN GREEN WITH BROWN EGGS. catdance, yes I do work in acrylics.
